Editorial: Then, Divide that by two...Fred Craven, EditorI remember—once upon a time in a schoolroom far, far, away—learning algebra. Algebra is a good thing and quite useful. As a young person, I actually enjoyed and understood it. However, when I received Blake Mitchell's article I had a flashback to the days of acne, homework, and riding the bus. I'm not saying this is the first time since high school that I have used such numerical skills, but it is the first time, in a long time, where I felt like I was reading one of those word problems that meant the difference between an A or a B. This time, Mr. Mitchell expands on his article from the last issue of Tech Topics, as he digs deeper into UPC bar codes and the Omni 3200 printer. As you will read, there is a little math involved. Warren Zunino contributes one of the longest articles we have had in Tech Topics. He offers up some guidance on whether or not to bring a loyalty card system inside your company. Finally, Dave Randolph enters the world of spying—or listening. If you tried to tap a phone line like this, you might get into a... little trouble, but when you are attempting to troubleshoot terminal applications, it can be life saver (or at least a money saver).♦ |
