Lunch at Theo's

Fred Craven

Every Friday, or almost every Friday, Prairie Trail Software, Inc. has a power lunch at one of Dallas' greatest hidden treasures: Theo's Diner.

This is a classic burger pit that might scare you away at first, but its got great atmosphere. It was put together with...parts... that were intended to be used in construction. The furnishings are eclectic and might have come from any number of thrift stores, or other diner type establishments. And then there's the various and sundry Elvis memoriabelia, sprinkled hear and there.

And, of course, you get the pure joy and excitement of Tony and Sybil. Tony doesn't say much—and Sybil says, well, a lot. The menu is straight forward, including burgers, gyros, spaghetti, salad, grilled cheese et.al.

Herein we sit and discuss this client or that client, and "What are we going to do with marketing for the rest of the year?" We chat with Sybil, and then perhaps, if the day is right, order some baklavas. Then discuss work some more. Dave and Joe have a tendency to digress into the bowls of programming minutia, which I find very boring and off topic for a company meetings.

Sure, we could have gone someplace with nice steak, and a business environment, but then we would have accomplished the same thing, for a lot more, and we would have had to wait to sit.

In this issue of Tech Topics Dave discusses a couple of options available to Tranz terminal users. Sure, we program for the Omni, but many times a Tranz terminal is all you need and you probably have a bunch of them lying around.

Any comparisons of Tranz terminals to Theo's Diner or other great burger places is purely uncoincidental. If you want to visit Theo's they are at 111 S. Hall at Commerce in Deep Elum. They are open most days until 3 PM.
