So what do you guys sell anyway? You know, I used to wonder about that myself, and I work here! So I thought a little history might be interesting.
Prairie Trail Software has two major Terminal communication products: zHost, and zEdit .
These two products were originally one product that Prairie Trail Software released which mixed both transaction processing and Zontalk style down-loading on the same phone lines. At that time, our "Host Kit" had several advantages over Zontalk, including a windows interface and the ability to communicate with multiple modems at once.
But some of our customers wanted to use one part or the other, so many in fact, that we split the "Host Kit" into the two products we have today.
zHost is the work-horse. It takes care of day to day communications between your terminal applications and your Database / back-end servers. zHost is usually costomized to meet the specific needs of each client.
zEdit with Downloader takes care of terminal set up. It allows businesses to manage, configure, and download applications or merchant parameters to VeriFone Terminals. The downloaded applications do not communicate with zEdit, they communicate with zHost (See, this was where I used to get confused).
Of course you don't have to use our downloader AND host but many of our clients do. Now, again because of customer requests, we have expanded and improved zEdit to include Omni terminal downloading.
"So why would my company want to use your products instead of a current competing product?" you might ask. Electronic Data Systems uses zEdit, and zHost for simplicity and versatility to communicate with their main-frame computer. First Data Resources uses them because we charge a fixed price rather than a per-terminal price and/or per-year licensing.
And least I forget to mention, In addition to our host and communication software, we also provide custom terminal programming, and consultation service—sometimes a little consultation can save a lot of cash.
